2025 Risque Rose

Blend: 46% Cabernet Sauvignon | 25% Syrah | 19% Malbec | 10% Merlot
Region: San Miguel District, Paso Robles, CA (Central Coast)

Appearance

  • Color: Pale salmon to vibrant coral — slightly deeper than a typical Provençal rosé due to the Cabernet and Malbec influence.

  • Clarity: Brilliant and limpid with youthful vibrancy.

Aromas (Nose)

  • Primary Fruit: Fresh strawberry, raspberry, and watermelon.

  • Secondary Notes: Red cherry, cranberry zest — a nod to the Cabernet and Merlot.

  • Subtle Layers: Rose petal and light white pepper from Syrah, gentle floral top notes.

  • Earth & Mineral: Light dusty mineral edge from the region’s alluvial soils.

Palate (Taste)

  • Fruit Core: Juicy red berry medley — strawberry, red currant, and rhubarb.

  • Spice & Complexity: Soft spice warmth (white/black pepper) from Syrah, subtle pomegranate tartness.

  • Acidity & Structure: Bright, refreshing acidity that keeps the wine crisp and lively, with a refined yet dry finish.

  • Body: Medium body — more presence and texture than ultra-light rosés, thanks to the Cabernet and Malbec proportions.

Finish

  • Clean, slightly savory finish with lingering red fruit, faint citrus peel brightness, and mild herbal hints.

Food Pairing Suggestions

Great with:

  • Niçoise salad with seared tuna

  • Grilled shrimp / grilled salmon

  • Light goat cheese & berry salad

  • Spicy tuna rolls or ceviche

This rosé balances fresh, vibrant fruit with a touch of spice and texture. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec bring depth and structure unusual for rosé, while the Syrah adds aromatic complexity and Merlot softens the mouthfeel. Overall, it feels elegant yet bold, with plenty of character from the warm-climate San Miguel District terroir.

Production notes

Saigner, pronounced - sown - knee (my interpretation, not Webster's), which means to bleed in French. When we bring in our red grapes, sometimes we'll "bleed" or drain some of the clear juice to intensify the remaining red wine. There is some color that comes from the skins during the production process, so that's where the slight pink comes from. We then ferment the clear juice as a white wine, very cold and slow.
